One of your best friends’ birthday’s is just around the corner and you know you want to do something special for them. After some soft probing questions a few weeks ago you discovered that they really like red velvet cake. You yourself have never been a great baker and, thus, are not enthused by this; as you refuse to make cakes from store bought mixes. Discussing this conundrum with another friend they excitedly direct you to the Bomani website where there is the perfect cocktail answer for your cocktail loving friend’s birthday!

The Red Velvet Espresso Martini is what you’re gonna go for. You order in The Buzz pack of Bomani Vanilla, source some candle stick holders, many martini glasses and you have your plan set for the big day.

During the party it comes about that time in the evening for cake. You take another cocktail savvy friend aside and start furiously shaking cocktails. Before long you’ve got two trays of full Red Velvet Espresso Martini cocktails, with candles sticking up between them. The lights are dimmed and you both emerge with the show stopper of the evening; the drinkable Red Velvet Espresso Martini cake.

Awe and shock are both audible through the room. Happy birthday is sung, martinis are handed out and it is quickly proclaimed the best cake ever gifted!

Red Velvet Espresso Martini

  • 1oz Taylor Fladgate Fine Tawny Port
  • 3oz Bomani Vanilla
  • 0.5oz Baileys Irish Cream
  • 0.25oz Simple syrup
  • Glass: Martini
  • Garnish: Powdered coffee
  • Method: Shake and strain.

Why This Cocktail Works

This cocktail sits on the edge of decadence. The port gives this cocktail a slight red hue, helping it lean toward its namesake, and the powdered coffee garnish provides an awakening aroma. This cocktail is just creamy enough to have an excellent body without being overpowered by this element of the drink. The vanilla is the one flavor which stands out, with the coffee, cream and slight whiskey notes all playing backup roles. The addition of simple syrup provides this drink with a great body, and sliding up alongside the sweeter vanilla notes to replicate this cocktails namesake.

Where and When

This is a great, and not overly creamy, dessert cocktail. It is also great as a fun, unique, boozy cake replacement at a birthday party.
